I have been blabbing on about juicing and being a fatty, and haven't said too much about the ostensible reason for writing this blog: Running.
First, the title. I am rubenesque, no two ways about it. Even when I was a skinny teenager I had an hour-glass figure. As I aged into my 20s, my boobs got bigger. On the occasions when I did decide to get fit and tried to run, I needed two bras. Clothes fit like shit, my shoulders hurt, and I started to slouch because I was self-conscious. I finally got a breast reduction when I was 45. Even then, I was a D cup.
I had been warned by my plastic surgeon that any change in weight would result in a change in my breasts (duh). Even knowing that to be true through personal experience and professional advice I wasn't wise enough to take care of myself. In 2012 I was 217 pounds, out of shape, with bigger boobs than ever, and deeply unhappy. My husband and I were both motivated to make some lifestyle changes so in spring of that year T. bought the Jillian Michaels Body Revolution. We followed it faithfully. I lost 40 pounds, and T. lost about the same. We were both in great shape, and felt and looked terrific. In July 2012 I ran the River Run Classic 10K in 1:07:34, which is not a blistering time, but was fast for me. After all, at 5'-11" I was rubenesque.
Still, I didn't learn my lesson. Over the last 3.5 years I've gained all of the weight back, and then some. I'm back to being fat and unhappy. I want to get fit and have fun again. I want to fit back into my clothes. I want to be able to go up and down stairs without getting out of breath and having sore knees, let alone ski and hike and play soccer and bike.
Besides, even though I hated running at first, the better I got at it the more I liked it. I want that to feel that way again. And juicing and dieting and Jillian Michaels aside, that is what this blog is for. The juicing and dieting and Jillian Michaels are merely tools to get that feeling back.
My racing plans are ambitious but go big or go home, amirite?
